Diets that Don’t Work

This week I’m going to touch on a few different eating styles to show you there is NO RIGHT WAY, there’s only the way that’s right for you. It doesn’t matter if everyone else lost 30 lbs on Keto, you didn’t and that’s ok (awesome actually, but that’s for another post). Maybe you gave intermittent fasting a shot and wound up raiding your pantry for every available double stuffed Oreo at 9PM? That’s ok too, I bet your body chemistry simply functions better with a steady flow of nutrients available throughout the day.

Trying a way of eating and realizing it doesn’t work isn’t a failure. It’s a successful experiment in figuring out what doesn’t work for YOUR BODY. Just like we all look different on the outside, what happens inside our bodies is also unique. Based on a host of factors, some environmental and some genetic, our metabolisms vary widely. For example, I might metabolize caffeine in 4 hours while it takes you 12. Obviously we shouldn’t have our last cup of coffee at the same time of day, and we probably shouldn’t be eating exactly the same either.

Finding what works for you is a game of trial and error. Usually any ‘diet’ that is full of restrictions is not the place to start. Trying intermittent fasting or Keto when you haven’t learned basic healthy nutrition habits is like going to the track with a McLaren when you never even learned to drive your grandma’s 1986 Toyota Corolla.

Today all I want you to do is get out a piece of paper and make 3 columns. In the first column write the name of a diet you've tried in the past, in the second column write the things you liked about eating that way, in the third column write the things you disliked about eating that way.
