Choose your Difficulty

Duke Nukem can be played in ‘Piece of Cake’ mode, or at the other end of the spectrum, ‘Death Wish’ mode. In video games you get to choose your own difficulty.

What’s the goal of playing a video game? To win right? To destroy the bad guys and save the kingdom?

But if the point was beating the game why would anyone ever play on the hardest setting? For video game aficionados the answer is clear: It’s not about winning. The goal is to enjoy every level and challenge yourself along the way, to relish in every zombie explosion and midnight car jacking.

We intuitively understand this idea when we’re playing a game, but in the real world we often forget. Sometimes choosing ‘easy’ doesn’t serve us best.

In life there are ALWAYS going to be obstacles, speed bumps, and hiccups. The goal isn’t to ‘win’ and get to the other side, but to enjoy the challenge.

Choosing ‘Easy’ doesn’t make the obstacles go away, and might actually be holding you back.
